Strawberry/Rhubarb salad from Hot Chocolate.
Did I really go to Hot Chocolate twice in one week? Yes! Because Papa G and GiGi had to witness Little B’s marshmallow experience and I was really craving another chai hot chocolate (btw, the crab cake sandwich is also excellent).
Last night, we had family dinner at Mindy Segal’s Hot Chocolate in Bucktown. She recently was awarded the 2012 James Beard Award for Best Pastry Chef, so I was eager to test out a good portion of the dessert menu. Apparently, so was Little B. He demolished a giant marshmallow and loved every second. To say he was a sticky mess is an understatement.
After a unique beet salad with shaved cucumber, sour cream and dill, as well as a beautiful piece of grilled salmon over a bed of pea puree, I indulged in a chai hot chocolate. I wouldn’t typically drink hot chocolate in the summer (on one of the hottest days of the season, no less), but the restaurant was cool and dark and I love anything chai. Mr. B went with the kale caesar, chicken vesuvio and strawberry pie (if I wasn’t busy cleaning the marshmallow off of Little B’s hands, I would have tried to steal a bite or two!).
With an updated contemporary look and feel, superior service and award-winning treats, we will definitely find ourselves at Hot Chocolate again and again.
