Oh, you know, just another Tuesday…walking around! Little B took his first steps today! They were extremely (and expectedly) clumsy; first he took 2 and plopped down on his knees, then worked up the courage to attempt 3. We both got so excited, squealing and waving our arms (Little B mostly to keep his balance). We have a ways to go before he is tackling the entire hallway, but I know it won’t be long.

Do you think it’s a coincidence that this is happening right before Halloween? Maybe we will actually be able to walk from house to house for trick or treat! If anyone knows where to get baby moon boots for my little astronaut, let me know…

This week…

Really into:

  • Isabel Marant slouchy boots. Doesn’t everyone need a solid pair of slouchy boots?
  • Nars New York eye shadow - a subtle burgundy shade to complement your Fall attire.  Looks great with a green/teal pencil lined over your liquid liner.  Otherwise known as my new evening look…
  • Vintage pumpkins on front porches and store stoops in the neighborhood
  • Updating my seasonal decor with colorful gourds under a glass dome (thanks West Elm!) and a copper wire pumpkin…speaking of, are we all in agreement that West Elm has really stepped up their game recently?
  • Little B’s developing vocabulary!  He has added “da da” (dad) and “mo mo” (Elmo) this week.  That brings us to a grand total of six words: Mama, no, ball and box are also in the rotation.  Allow me to explain the last one…between diapers.com and Saks, we get quite a few boxes.  Little B is a fan of helping me open them and jumping inside.

Not so into:

  • Writing thank you notes.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m so grateful for the many wonderful gifts that Little B received, but this process seems a bit archaic.  If my car can park itself and I can make sure I shut the garage door from my phone (actually, I can’t do this yet, but its on my list), shouldn’t we be sending instant digital thank you notes of the recipient utilizing/loving the gift? Just saying…
  • Baby ear infections…right after a spectacular birthday weekend.  Nothing makes you feel like a horrible parent like walking in to the doc’s office for a well visit check up and leaving with a prescription for antibiotics…

Getting in touch with nature…

Today Little B turned 11 months old.  For a mini celebration (before the BIG one year celebration), Papa G, Gigi and I took him to the nature museum.  We watched the colorful butterflies flutter from leaf to leaf, learned about eco-friendly housing (a reminder to recycle those wine bottles) and followed frogs and turtles from rock to rock (poor things are probably traumatized from the incessant tapping on the glass) .  I wish I could have recorded Little B shrieking with delight just taking it all in.

We brought him to the museum a few short months ago in a baby carrier, but this visit was distinctly different.

He was engaged!

He paid attention.

He was so curious.

My baby is becoming a little boy.  One that is hooked on learning and interested in the world that surrounds him.  I couldn’t be more proud.

Happy 11 month birthday, Little B!

On Saturday, my mom and I took Little B shopping for some new shoes (his Sperrys lasted approximately 2.5 minutes). As I suspected, he has refused to wear “regular” shoes because his feet are extremely wide and previous pairs were downright uncomfortable. Not just extra wide, but extra extra wide (I find this to be both hilarious and adorable. I mean, how cute is this pic of him testing out a very manly navy pair?!).

Short of enlisting some Italian shoemaker to construct Little B’s special kicks, the only place I have found that carries his size is Stride Rite (where I shopped with my mom for shoes decades ago - how nostalgic!).

Moms, I need some help! Do you know of other brands that carry my little guy’s size?

Our little road warrior is ten months old! In addition to riding his car around the house (and pushing it into the other furniture to create magical noises and dents), his newest hobby is imitating Mr. B and me. Things that sound like hello, good bye, vroom (like a car), and mama and dada are practiced frequently. I even taught him how to moo like a cow last week. It’s probably my favorite thing ever. I could watch/listen to it all day. Of course, as the oldest (and only) child, we must praise him relentlessly afterward.
