Navigating motherhood beyond The Windy City

Dressing the Bump

I really hate spending $$$ on maternity clothes.  I can’t justify paying a lot for pieces that I’ll only wear for a few months and then want to burn because I’m so tired of looking at them.  With Burke, I was lucky.  I didn’t get that big until late summer, so I mostly wore boxier dresses to work or blouses paired with the one pair of maternity suit pants I invested in and fitted jackets.

Unfortunately, this time around, my wardrobe is completely different.  While it’s nice to throw on a dress to run errands, I can’t exactly wear them to the park.  Shorts, jeans, tees and tanks (topped with a statement jacket) have become my go-to pieces.

In my search for an updated, yet functional wardrobe, I have mixed maternity wear and the everyday sportswear from brands I loved before getting knocked up.  Maternal America (sold at Nordy’s) and Hatch (I buy at Shopbop, but other boutiques carry) have quickly become some of my favorite bump-friendly brands.  Paired with Rag and Bone drawstring shorts,* a Parker maxi dress* or an IRO jacket,* I think I’m set (at least until the next trimester).

*currently on sale!
