Navigating motherhood beyond The Windy City

11 notes

For awhile there I thought Little B was definitely a city kid…

He doesn’t like walking on grass when we visit my parents, he has a genuine love for the El and he avoids getting dirty on our park dates.

Then he discovered sand and the whole “clean” deal was done. Whether it’s the sandbox at the park or the indoor version at art class, he is mesmerized. The texture, the volume, driving trucks through it, sifting it through his tiny toddler fingers, dumping it on other children - he is engrossed and loves getting into it.

There is now a pile of sand from his shoes and pants on my kitchen floor from art class today; looks like my “clean” child is long gone. That’s okay…hopefully it will make the transition from city kid to suburban kid that much easier…
