Little B learned how to feed himself today…which is a big deal to me because, in my family, food is important. It’s celebratory and an experience. My fondest food memories include lobsters my dad brought home from Maine, being introduced to sushi when I was eight and actually liking it (I clearly am still a fan), paging through Barefoot Contessa’s latest cookbook (before Epicurious existed) for intriguing recipes for an upcoming dinner party with my mom and making rice crispy treats on snow days.
I married someone that also enjoys time in the kitchen (and caters to my desire to dine at every new restaurant in the city within a month of its opening). While our techniques in the kitchen may differ (he follows recipes, I alter them), together we have crafted some mouth-watering entrees and created our own traditions that I want to share with Little B. He may be too young for “the perfectly seared steak” or the “white cheddar mushroom frittata”, but my little foodie is quickly developing an adventurous palette (and hopefully a set of manners to go with it) of which I am going to take full advantage!
Some of his new favs include mangos, yogurt strawberries, squash, apples, granola, peas, chicken and cucumber spears.
